Whether you are deciding to have hair transplant surgery or you are exploring your options for treating hair loss, we’re glad that you have included Martinick Hair Restoration in your research journey.
If you have been thinking about hair transplantation for a while, it’s likely that you’ve encountered an enormous amount of information about the subject.
There’s plenty of valuable information available, however it’s important to be mindful that a lot of confusing material exists about the causes of hair loss, treatments, the medications on offer and the surgical and non-surgical solutions.
We strongly advocate that you research this subject, however we stress the importance of having a consultation with a professional specialising in hair loss before you decide on a treatment path.
The best way to identify the cause of your hair loss and obtain an appropriate treatment plan is through a consultation with a medical professional specialising in the field.
Our consultants at Martinick Hair Restoration clinics will provide you with an extensive diagnosis on your hair loss as well as advice on Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved medications and topical treatments for preserving your existing hair.
For a confidential consultation, please call us on 1800 689 939.
Our consultation goal is to equip you with the information you need to make an informed decision about the hair loss treatment that is right for you.
After the consultation, you will have a clear idea of what can be done for you and how much a hair transplant procedure, tailored to your needs, will cost.

While male pattern baldness is the most common source of hair loss in men, it should never be assumed this is the source of your hair loss.
During the consultation with a Martinick Hair Restoration professional, you will be asked about your age, family history of hair loss and any other possible contributing factors such as stress or illness.
If you decide on the permanent solution of hair transplantation an individualised plan will be developed for you.

A hair transplant is a simple outpatient procedure, that depending on the number of grafts transplanted, will take between four and six hours.
Under local anaesthesia a strip of donor tissue is taken from the back of the head, the follicular units are then prepared for transplant and the recipient sites for the donor hair will be prepared for transplant.
The transplanted hair – taken from a donor strip of hair bearing skin from the back of the scalp – will grow just as your own hair from the harvested area does.
The principle of donor dominance ensures the transplanted hair continues to grow for the rest of your life.
This is because the transplanted hair is resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone that causes hair loss.
Hair transplant physicians employing best practice surgical techniques create a natural looking transplant by transplanting the donor follicles at the same angle and orientation as your own hair.
Operating under the guidance of Dr Jennifer Martinick, our specialist physicians are trained and approved to the Martinick Transplant Technique ™.
Trademarked for the attention to detail, the Martinick Technique ™ is renowned for creating a natural and thicker looking head of hair.
Another beneficial feature of the Martinick Technique ™ is the practice of replanting the donor follicle in a coronal direction instead of the conventionally practised sagittal direction (linear transplanting).
The coronal method – which essentially involves replanting the donor follicles in the way hair naturally flows – produces more aesthetically appealing results, less bleeding and improved survival rate of precious donor grafts.
While at some clinics the physician is only present at the beginning and end of the surgery, Martinick Hair Restoration physicians are present for the whole procedure.
Hair transplant procedures are individualised for each patient and all planning is done before the donor strip of follicles are removed for transplant.
Martinick Hair Restoration is renowned for creating a natural and denser looking head of hair.
A thicker looking head of hair is created by transplanting different groupings of follicles together.
For example, some follicles, such as those in the permanent rim, contain one and two hairs, while a double follicular unit (DFU) in the scalp area contains three and four hair follicles.
In devising a formula for a patient, Dr Martinick assesses the amount of donor follicles available for a procedure as well as the size of the recipient site.
Another factor for the surgeon to consider is hair to skin contrast.
The mathematical formula, which makes judicious use of certain groupings of hair follicles, takes into account whether the recipient area is balding or totally bald and the patient’s desire for thick or thin coverage.
For example, if a recipient site is 75 sq cm and the expected coverage of 40 follicles per sq cm is envisaged, 3000 follicles will be required.
Hence, a patient with low hair to skin contrast, low groupings and coarse diameter hair may be treated with 2000 grafts made up of 1000 single follicles and 1000 double follicular units to make a total of 3000 follicles.
When considering a hair transplant clinic it is advisable to find out about the surgical team that supports the physician.
Just as surgical techniques are critical to ensuring excellence in hair transplantation – Martinick Hair Restoration’s carefully-selected surgical support team, which is coached under the Martinick Training System, is an important part of the process.
Ensuring patient comfort, higher graft survival and that all procedures are completed within six hours are key drivers for this training system.
The training system ensures the teams of technicians are given intensive training in creating healthy grafts, overcoming graft placement problems and dealing with difficult cases.
Technicians are taught a “two touch technique” to minimize handling of the graft during implantation.
This approach ensures the health of the cells is preserved and higher survival rates of the new grafts.
Time management in surgery is also enhanced with a trainer placer board which demonstrates how implanting can be done from different angles so that up to four technicians can work on a patient at a time.
Hair restoration/transplantation versus hair replacement
It’s important to differentiate between clinics that provide medically-proven surgical hair transplantation and those that provide non-surgical hair replacement.
Hair replacement, which involves attaching a hairpiece, wig or toupee, offers the instant enhancement of a fuller looking head of hair.
Unlike the clinically proven permanent solution of surgical hair restoration where the donor hair grows naturally, hair replacement demands ongoing visits to the salon for upkeep and reattachment of the hairpiece.
Martinick Hair Restoration has a modern well appointed clinic in the riverside suburb of Nedlands, just a few kilometres from central Perth.
Martinick Hair Restoration physicians are also sought for restorative surgery to correct patients previous obvious looking transplants, for eyebrow enhancement or healing hair bearing areas that have been scarred from burns or other trauma.
Our clinics are also located in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
